Micro 2004 transmitter

Postby Nic Gibbs » Tue May 26, 2009 1:24 pm

If anyone hasn't seen these yet - they are alternative smaller transmitter suitable for classes where space and weight are a consideration, they only weigh 150 grams ( the blue TX-8000 weighs 500 grams )
I tried one at the last meeting at Nelson on a sidecar and it worked very well - got consistent 99.4 crossings.
They are available from the SNZ office and cost the same as the TX-8000.
Their transmit power is slightly less than the TX-8000, so they do have to be mounted correctly - ie not more than 200 mm from the track surface and no metallic oblects in the signal path.
The battery run time is a little shorter at about 8 days ( a TX-8000 will go for about 10 days with a new battery ) Image

And this is the charging base - uses the same 12 V DC plug pack as the TX-8000 Image

Use of Micro 2004 in contact classes

Postby Nic Gibbs » Tue May 26, 2009 1:54 pm

Just some further information that has been brought to my attention by Graeme Sutton.
if these units are to be used in contact classes they will need some additional mounting other than the two screws behind the transmitter, eg two good quality 6mm nylon cable ties through the mounting plate and around each end of the plastic mount ( there are some groves in the ends of the mount for this ).
Generally I think it would be better to use the well proven TX-8000 in heavy contact classes, the Micro 2004 is better suited to classes where size and weight are a consideration.

Micro 2004 Transmitter no longer avaialbale from SNZ

Postby Nic Gibbs » Tue May 26, 2009 2:23 pm

It has been brought to my attention that these units are no longer available from Speedway NZ due to a lack of demand.
